Another year and season has come and gone… what can I say, it hasn’t exactly been the year I had hoped for/expected. But I guess that is life: you never really get what you bargain for. So where to start - 2017 came to a really good start with me actually being in pretty good shape going into the new year. …

I realise it has been a while since the last one of these, in fact it has almost been a year. So I think a blog is definitely overdue and I thought my birthday would be a good time to get back into it… The lack of blogs is not really because of a lack of things happening in my life, more because I have always been waiting for some good news so this blog - which I inevitably had to write at some point – would have at least a slightly positive twist to it. …

The goal was simple: show what I am capable of… Result: I didn’t.

I am very happy with my swim! I was able to show how much I have improved in the swim over winter - even in a swim with waves and without wetsuit
But the run was nowhere near my ability. I have been finally feeling like myself running in training again during the past two weeks but I just couldn't show that in the race. …

DNF at the ITU World Triathlon in Abu Dhabi. Definitely not the start to the new season I was dreaming of, but couldn’t put my much improved swimming into practice and, since I’ve been injured recently, I didn’t want to risk my foot getting worse again for the sake of a top 50 finish.

Getting Ready for the New Season

With less than two weeks to go to the first WTS race in Abu Dhabi, I am crrently spending a few days in Mallorca to get ready. Training over the winter went really well - just recently I had a slight injury in my foot. Nevertheless, I feel well prepared for the upcoming challenges - Abu Dhabi is an Olympic qualifier race for the German team. …
